How I work

If you’ve never worked with a designer before, you might not know what to expect. Don’t worry, I’ll guide you through the process from start to finish, but this page explains a bit about how I’ll work with you once you give me the nod.

It's Painless,
I promise!

Getting to know you.

What’s your business? What’s your vision? Who do you want to work with? What’s your favourite drink?*

These are just some of the questions I’ll want to ask you before I get started on your design project because they help me to understand you and your business better. These little insights will help me deliver design that’s perfect for you.

Initially I’ll ask you to complete a briefing document and, depending on the project, we’ll often follow it up with a chat.

* The correct answer is coffee. Always coffee.

Getting to know your competitors

Ok, so once I know you and what you’re looking for, I’ll do some market research on your industry. I’ll also dive into the design industry to take a look at relevant work.

This helps me to see what’s working for your competitors, what’s not and find ways to blow them out of the water.

Getting my head down

Then it’s time to get creative – and this is the best bit! When the coffee’s brewed, I’ll start by sketching out some ideas. Once I know where I’m going with the design, I’ll take to my Mac to start building them up and bringing them to life.

Getting your first peek

It’s time for the big reveal. For each project, whether it’s branding concepts or brochure design, I’ll send over 2-3 options for you to review. I supply these in PDF format so they’re easy to view. For branding projects, I’ll also send over some mock ups of your logo in situ.

Getting it right

I want you to be 100% happy with the designs I provide, and each project quote includes up to three rounds of amends* to make sure we have everything just right. I do ask clients when they are reviewing work to remember that each piece of design is created to appeal to their target audience and not necessarily to them personally. Most of the time the work will appeal to both, but it’s an important distinction to make.

* Additional changes will incur an extra cost.

Getting your files

Once you’re happy with the design work and have signed it off, I’ll send you my final invoice. After the invoice is settled I’ll send over the final files and they’ll be yours to use as you wish. But that’s not goodbye forever. Many clients choose to work with me again and again, to keep all their marketing materials looking consistent. So, let’s just say ‘I’ll see you soon’.
